If you are applying to these opportunities without GCSEs in maths and English at grade 4 or above (grade C or above), you may need these qualifications to boost your chances of success. Functional skills level 2 qualifications in maths and English are a great alternative to GCSE qualifications, as they offer several benefits that GCSEs do not.
Functional skills level 2 qualifications can be a good option for anyone who needs to sit or resit their GCSEs. Passing the functional skills level 2 exam in maths or English is equivalent to obtaining a grade 4 in GCSE, which is considered a standard pass and the minimum level that students must achieve without needing to resit Maths and English. This means functional skills can get you access to opportunities reserved for people who have passed maths and English.
Functional skills qualifications are especially attractive because they can be taken online at any time throughout the year. This differs from the GCSE exams as these must be sat in person and only run at certain times in the year. The functional skills level 2 qualifications organised by MME Exams are Ofqual regulated and accepted by most UK employers and education providers. MME Exams don’t just run functional skills exams.
