Looking for ways to keep your child reading over summer? Join the library’s Summer Reading Challenge and they will have lots of fun along the way!
This year’s theme is Space Chase; celebrating the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.
Your child can help the super cool Rocket family figure out why books are going missing from the Moon Library – and whether some naughty aliens spotted on a mysterious ship are to blame!
Children aged 4-11 years (or above and below) can join this year’s Summer Reading Challenge at Calderdale Libraries from Saturday, July 13, to Saturday, September 14.
It’s totally FREE and to get started all your child has to do is sign up at their local library and bring their library card. If you are not a member yet, ask a member of Calderdale Libraries’ staff – it’s really easy to join!
They will be given a special folder and as they read their books (they have to read six books in total) each child will receive smelly stickers (one for every two books read) to help them find the aliens. Once they have collected all the stickers they will have saved the missing books and completed their challenge – earning a certificate and a sticky throwing prize!
They will also be invited to a medal winners ceremony at Brighouse Civic Hall during the October half term.
Children are encouraged to read at least six library books. They can be any books they like – novels, fact books, joke books, e-books or audio books, they all count – and your library will have staff and volunteers on hand to help children choose books they will really enjoy. You can also find book ideas here.
