My kids love crafting all year round, but there’s something about Bonfire Night that really captures their imaginations.
Whether it’s the sparkles, bright colours exploding against the night sky, staying up late or the delicious snacks, they love the chance to get excited all over again so soon after hanging up their Halloween costumes.
So move aside pumpkins, bats and ghosts; here are ten new craft ideas for your kids to enjoy, with fizz and sparkles aplenty!
Dip the tip of a chocolate finger into hot water (careful with little ones) then into a bowl of sprinkles. Popping candy makes them extra delicious! (Image via www.glasgowcu.com)
Clean a glass jar and fill it 3/4 of the way up with warm water. Pour four tablespoons of oil into a bowl and add a few drops of food colouring (about four drops for each colour). Mix the oil and colours together, then slowly pour the mixture into the jar and watch what happens! (Image via icanteachmychild.com)
Gather some tinsel pipe cleaners and cut them in half. Gather five halves, fold them in half again, wrap around your child’s finger to make a ring shape then use the sixth half to secure the circle. Bend the ends to look like a bursting firework, making sure the ends don’t poke into the child’s finger. (Image via fantasticfunandlearning.com)
Bake buns or cookies from your favourite recipe, then let them cool. Mix some icing (or use store-bought tubes), divide into bowls and add food colouring. Splatter them onto the sweet treats and use the backs of spoons or cocktail sticks (careful!) to drag them into exploding shapes. (image via nuturestore.co.uk)
Save a few loo rolls then using scissors, cut lots of slits into one end and splay the cardboard out. Dip the cut ends into a few bowls of paint and splodge onto paper! (Image via learning4kids.net)
Gather some ice lolly sticks and cut out some rocket shapes. Let the children colour them, stick things onto them and make flames with tissue paper, ribbons or pipe cleaners. Stick them onto the lolly stick and they’re ready to fly! (Image via activityvillage.co.uk)
Collect some beautiful autumn leaves and sticks during a walk with the kids. Gather some paper and glue, then stick some twigs to the paper in a bonfire shape, and use leaves to make flames. Add some pom poms for fireworks if you want some sparkle. (Image via @EarlyYearsOutdoors)
An old favourite from my childhood. Colour all over some sheets of paper with brightly coloured crayons. Paint over the top with black paint, or colour with black crayon, then use a coin, lolly stick or your finger nails to scratch fireworks. (Image via masandpas.com)
Drizzle some white glue in swirls and fireworks shapes onto some black paper, then holding the paper over a bin, pour table salt over it and tap to loosen any extra. Using a paintbrush, dab paint over the salt to create a lovely, sparkly effect. Make sure the paint is very wet. You could also use food colouring, applied with a pipette. Make your favourite playdough and colour it black. Add glitter and small, sparkly bits and pieces such as sequins, pom poms, buttons or beads.
