We’re all ready for a week of good autumnal fun – whatever the weather may be! There’s loads to keep you busy in Calderdale, from outside to inside attractions, and those with a bit of both. Here’s our pick of family days out in and near Calderdale, suitable for all the family.

Head to Ponderosa for a Spook-tacular Halloween event! You can experience insect encounters, animal talks, a spooky broomstick trail, fancy dress competition and more!
*Due to Covid-19 restrictions we ask that you bring your own pencil to take part in the spooky trail (or purchase one at our gift shop!).
Child £5.50, Adult £6.75. Family tickets £21 (2 adults & 2 children or 1 adult & 3 children). Under 3’s free. Picnic areas and food/drink available.
Fancy a day of action and adventure? Another World Adventure Centre has put together packages of activities for you to do with your own family/group (up to 6 people). Most activities are suitable from ages 4/5 upwards.
Activities could include slingshots with paintballs, grass sledging, dirt scooters, safe target archery and mini golf. There are huge picnic and games areas, and you can order a BBQ cafe takeaway to be delivered to your picnic/heated marquee area.
Prices from £7.50 per person. Two and three hour packages. Afterwards, why not take a walk around Ogden Water?

Spooky activities galore, as well as all the usual Eureka fun.
You must prebook, which you can do online. Free with an annual pass, or: Age 1-2 £3.95, Age 3+ £13. 95. Under 1s free.

Hunt for ghosts in the Mysterious Maze, play crazy golf, jump on the bouncing pillows and meet all the animals on the farm. You might even see some piglets being born! Each paying child can pick a pumpkin in the pumpkin patch and carve it in the tent.

Discover some of the creepiest creatures that call Tropical World home and say boo to some spooky residents!
Enjoy a trail (and trail sheet!), exploring different habitats, searching for the most dangerous and feared inhabitants. Fancy dress is encouraged!
Afterwards, you can spend a few hours enjoying Roundhay Park!

Follow the spooky skeletons trail around the estate and into the haunted house, while dressed up in your best Halloween costume.
You can download the trail or pick it up when you visit, along with downloadable Halloween craft activities to do at home and share on social media.
Our new visitor route through the servants quarters and historic rooms will be dressed to impress for Halloween.
Adults £8.30, children £4.15, under 5s go free. Family ticket £25.
Breathe in the fresh autumn air, enjoy the gorgeous colours, kick up leaves, fill your pockets with conkers and have loads of fun running around the woodland. There’s a new sculpture train to enjoy, and young imaginations can run wild in the Logness Monster and Craggle Top Tree House play areas.
Treats and hot drinks are available in Betty’s Café.
All visitors require a pre-booked slot to enter. Adults £12. 15. Children £6.10. Free to RHS members. Under 5’s are free.

All the family will love exploring the spooky forest and Haunted Halloween Village at Mother Shipton’s Cave. You’ll find witches, ghosts, creepy skeletons, as well as the Petrifying Well and the birthplace of a real witch!
Other ghoulish fun includes fancy dress competitions and photo opportunities. The park offers scenic picnic areas alongside the River Nidd, an adventure playground, gift shop and museum.
10am-4pm. £30 per car (max of 5) or £10 per pedestrian. Under 3’s go free. Not pushchair accessible. Dogs welcome apart from the adventure playground.

For £10 per car, you can have loads of fun at Bolton Abbey with the kids. There’s the Welly Walk (open until November 1, not suitable for pushchairs) where kids can test their balance, scramble up nets, navigate the pole-to-pole and try their hardest to keep clean as they come down the slides! Then there’s the Pumpkin Trail, where you can enter Strid Wood through the giant spooky gates and follow the trail of over-sized pumpkins to find the mystery boxes and solve the clues. Collect your trail sheet from outside the Cavendish Shop.

Kids who don spooky fancy dress can travel for half price over October half term! For just £3, you can get a children’s rover ticket which will be valid all day on all trains and playgrounds for just £3!
Tickets must be booked in advance and children must be accompanied by a full paying adult.

If you’re looking for action, Diggerland could be the place for you. There won’t be any Halloween activities on offer, but there’s plenty to keep you busy. You could test your driving skills on a dumper truck, hang on tight while braving the world-famous Spindizzy ride, or hook a duck using the controls of a digger. Something for all ages.
Indoor soft play and the Little Tykes areas are currently closed. Must pre-book. Opens at 10am.
Adults £19.95, children (above 90cm) £9.95. Children under 90 cm go free.
