Forget the TV – Calderdale Council is beaming its own entertainment live into your living rooms!
Tonight (Thursday, April 16, 2020) between 6 and 8pm, virtual charity concert Calderdale Live will be broadcast live on Calderdale Council’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
It’s free to watch, features favourites such as pantomime star Josh Benson and has been coordinated in partnership with the Community Foundation for Calderdale.
The concert aims to raise money for the Community Resilience Fund during COVID-19, and residents can donate (if they are able) via this LocalGiving page.
The lockdown line-up will be hosted by actor and TV personality Neil Jones, and includes:
The show will end with a special thank you to the NHS and all key workers, as part of the weekly Clap For Our Key Workers initiative.
Leader of Calderdale Council Tim Swift said: “Our local entertainment venues may be closed, but through Calderdale Live, we’re determined to continue to bring some light relief and positivity into people’s lives, both in Calderdale and beyond.”
He added: “The concert will be free to watch, but we’re asking people, if they’re able, to make a donation to Calderdale’s Community Resilience Fund, to help our vulnerable residents.
“We’re all facing new challenges as we adjust to the changes in our daily lives as a result of COVID-19. Calderdale Live is a fantastic idea which will bring a much needed boost in these difficult times.”
Steve Duncan, Chief Executive of the Community Foundation for Calderdale, said: “It’s sad that COVID-19 is hitting us so soon after flooding, but we are working with Calderdale Council, CFFC supporters and key partners to build a Community Resilience Fund.
“The fund is supporting local frontline charities and vulnerable residents. We want to be able to look after these people and show that Calderdale cares.”
