Warming up in a cafe can be the perfect cold-weather treat and it’s definitely our go-to to for meeting friends.
Since I have three young children in tow, I always choose places I’ve tried and tested before, so I know they will be welcome and easily entertained while I devour caffeine and (try!!) to have some adult conversation.
I’ve got my favourites, but am always looking for new places so I canvassed other Mumblers’ opinions to find which ones they loved too.
Everything below has been recommended by local parents and grandparents and I can’t wait to check them all out!
Square Chapel:
Square Chapel
“We love nipping into Square Chapel during a visit to The Piece Hall. Ice cream tubs are reasonably priced and the kids love digging into them while I sip a hot chocolate. There are lots of high chairs, large tables so the whole family can comfortably fit round and some drawers with kids’ toys, crayons and paper. One of the volunteers once showed my kids how to make paper airplanes then helped them fly them outside on the patio. We are always made to feel very welcome and the kids always have fun. The cakes are yummy too!”
“I always loved Square Chapel when I was on mat leave. Loads of room and lovely cakes and I breastfed in there at least weekly”
Stanley’s Kitchen, Ripponden
“The owner, Penny, is really friendly, it’s super child friendly, great food choices for babies, toddlers and grownups, very reasonable price-wise, there are some toys available too. Not to mention… Ikea high chairs 👏🏽 always loved going here after our Baby Sensory classes.”
“I’ve never been here but my little girl LOVES going here with my parents, and regularly asks for them to take her! They have a photo booth-type area which she LOVES and regularly sits and eats her sarnie with a pink feather boer on 😂”

“Clean baby changing room and staff help you with your tray etc. Good choice of food for children.”
Willow Tree Cafe @ Number 5
“Amazing cakes, hot drinks, lots of space and toys to play with. Staff are really friendly, nothing is too much trouble”

The Gate Cafe Bar
“Always very welcoming and easy access with prams if eating downstairs. Really good with kids and always say hello to the baby. The menu is reasonably priced (great for maternity leave meet ups!) MASSIVE coffee for sleepy parents. Great kids menu and found it good for baby led weaning.”
Pride & Provenance
“I found it to be one of the most welcoming and helpful places when I first had baby. It’s very scary venturing out at first and I found them to be very accommodating and never (felt) out of place, even when baby had a little cry. They have high chairs and good food and coffee but the menu may be a bit more limited if you have picky eaters”

Magic Garden Play Cafe, Haworth Village Hall
“All meat is from the farm shop, large play area for kids, they have different classes on for kids, food good price.”
Costa Coffee, Halifax
“Costa coffee in Halifax have been good every time I’ve been in- always carry my tray for me and have brought the high chair over.”

Moonbean, Sowerby Bridge
“Only been in once but there was a group of us with seven-month-old babies and they were so accommodating – they made a special platter for the babies to munch on (cut-up fruit, salad, bread). It is tiny so have to leave your pram outside but the staff really are lovely, and the food is amazing.”
The Hive Coffee and Kitchen
“I have recently been to The Hive with my granddaughter, it’s super child-friendly with games for the kids and the food is great ♥️☕”
Cafe at the Track
“Definitely Cafe at the Track . Always so welcoming and friendly, and really accommodating for prams/high chairs etc.
Myself and a few mums go at least once a week and breastfeed there too. Plus the money raised from the cafe helps towards Ravenscliffe school xx”

Cinnamon, Westgate Arcade
“Again a bit tricky with a pram, but seating outside if it’s warm enough. Loads of room upstairs. Friendly staff. And a cracking kids’ breakfast that comes in a mini frying pan 👍👍🍳”
Cafe Passion:
“Cafe Passion which is open during the day but probably more of a tea time thing. But the people in there are so friendly and always treat my kids well. They even remember us after only a few visits. Not much space to move around and some stairs if you’re seated upstairs obviously, but I love it”
Barley Box in Elland
” Absolutely love this place with the kids. Great value. The friendly staff, the price and the puddings! All children’s portions are a great size for little ones and you have lots of choice. They have high chairs and bigger tables for larger families to sit together. You don’t have to wait long for the food to come out and the place is lovely and clean 🙂 I love the huge world map mural on the wall.”
Coffee on the Bean, Skircoat Green:
“It is the most wonderful cafe. The staff go above and beyond and it’s such a great asset to Skircoat Green. We go every single Friday with the children we look after. We are childminders. We’ve been going every Friday for about 2 years or more. We have the same table every week and the atmosphere is lovely and the staff go out their way to make the children happy. Even giving them a treat to go home with. So caring and we call it our cafe fri-YAY X”

The Temperance Movement
“Lovely owner Joe, and his fantastic attitude towards children and dogs, nothing is too much for him and his team, they go out of their way to interact with the little ones and my breastfeeding friends have always loved the upstairs space for chilling and feeding.”
Loafers Vinyl & Coffee
“A relaxed, grownup feel, but you can still go in with little ones and feel super welcome. I take my 4-year-old there often for a drink and a biscuit and he browses the records with me. The owner has a small child, so gets it right on the nose with nice comfy spaces for breastfeeding, decent high chairs and just a general decent attitude. Bonus points because it’s really close to the loos in The Piece Hall so no faffing about trekking across the whole place,to take the boy for a wee.”
Babyccinos, Mirfield
“The staff are amazing, they help you in with the pram with use of a buzzer and there is pram parking. Cameras on play area so you can see your little ones while having your lovely barista coffee. The food is also amazing and great changing facilities. Oh, and cake! 💓”
“I would second this! The staff are fantastic, they bring you a glass of water without having to ask if you’re breastfeeding, bring the menu and card reader over if you’re sat playing with your little one so you don’t have to go to the counter and there’s a lovely little fenced off safe play area for babies where they can sit and play and parents can enjoy their lunch/a coffee sat at a table next to them without having to worry! Great for those with babies & toddlers too as there’s a separate play area for toddlers to use and you can watch them on a TV screen from the cafe! They also do fab homemade baby food & lovely lunches for toddlers! Lovely little place ☺️”
Noco Kiosk
“They talk to the kids, Nocos makes sure the heaters are on if it’s chilly and they always make a ‘dinosaur’ shake or hot chocolate for my son since he doesn’t like unicorns 🤦♀️😂.”
The Deli
“The Deli is lovely and the staff are great, understanding that if my kids go up to the counter they’re trying to gain their independence. They talk to them as they would any other customer.”
Coffee Culture in the Park
“Great place to warm up after feeding the ducks and playing in the park, and you can sit outside if it’s nicer. It’s light and airy with lots of space and lots of highchairs too. My kids love building their own little picnic boxes and you can buy pellets to feed the ducks. Lots of room for prams and nice toilets. They have a selection of toys and books if you ask, and free wifi.”
