Information correct for February Half Term 2020
It’s loads of fun to have the kids at home (most of the time!!!) but not always easy on the wallet when they want to be entertained.
Playgrounds are the obvious penny-saving choice, but when the weather isn’t playing ball, we have to be a bit more creative.
These ten free or cheap days out and activities in and near Calderdale will help to keep the kids – and your bank balance – half term happy!
National Science & Media Museum
15th – 23rd February 2020, 10am-6pm
Got a child who enjoys video games? They’ll love it at the National Science & Media Museum in Bradford, where they can try coding, play brand new games and much more!
Younger kids can chill out with a CBeebies app.
Entry is free but some activities may have a small charge.
February 19 & 20, 1.30-3pm
Perfect for families with children aged eight and under, these sessions are themed and include crafts, games and activities. They’re free, and you can just turn up on the day.
February 17-21, noon-2pm.
Explore the fabulous woodland, then craft a woodland creature to take home.
Free, but parking is £5 per car (or free if you are a National Trust member).
From Captain Underpants to Stig of the Dump, there’s something to interest everyone at Calderdale libraries. There’s a Bloxels workshop too, where children can work in teams to create their own video game!
£3 (2 PTL) to £5 per session
February 16-23, 2020
Enjoy a winter walk around Oakwell Park and pick up a special activity pack from the Visitor Centre shop.
£1.50 per pack.

Skate school sessions – where you learn how to skate better – are £5, including skate hire.
Bankfield Museum (& Sparks! Craft Sessions)
My kids love exploring Bankfield, and popping into the lovely Akroyd Library while we’re there. Entry is free, but if you want to join in the Sparks school holiday craft sessions, they cost £4 (£3 PTL) and must be booked in advance.
15th February – 23rd February, 2020
It’s free to get into the museum (although a donation of £5 is suggested for trips underground) and over half term there will be hands-on mining-themed activities and daily special events.
Kids who wear fancy dress will ride for half price during half term (£3 each!). There are free craft activities in the heated marquee at Shelley Station too.
February 19 & 21, 2020, 11am-noon
Great for letting kids burn off steam, kids can have all the fun of the gym equipment without the structure of lessons.
