We all know how fast kids grow out of school uniform – or ruin them with paint or in the playground.
And while it’s not cheap to buy a full school uniform, there is a free – and fabulous – option in Calderdale.
Halifax YMCA has been running a free uniform donation and giveaway service since last summer.
Anyone is welcome to go along and take what they need, and the donated items include full school uniforms, coats and PE kits.
“It was set up by the YMCA because having children ourselves, we knew how costly uniforms are and we didn’t know what to do with the uniforms after our children had grown out of them,” explains Debbie Pearson, delivery team leader at Halifax YMCA.
“What do you do if you don’t have anybody to pass them on to?
“Now everybody can donate their unwanted items at the YMCA and we do it for them.
“This scheme helps many families in the Calderdale and surrounding areas. Anyone can donate or call in and take what they need.”
The uniforms are all free with all ages available, including a lot of named items.
There are also PE kits, coats and shoes.
Whether you need a new pinafore to tide you over until the end of term, or a pair of shoes in a pinch, there is plenty to choose from.
“Everyone is welcome to come and have a look at what we have,” adds Debbie.
