So I was extremely excited to receive a special treat just for me from Bare & Bond!
As someone who wears the same two perfumes on rotation, I was eager to explore fragrance in a way which didn’t involve standing in a high street perfume shop for what feels like hours and eventually buying a bottle of perfume which wasn’t me and I most likely wouldn’t wear.
I decided to try the monthly subscription as I felt it would give me a month to thoroughly test a perfume before making a decision and purchasing a full-sized bottle. I was also intrigued by the fact that Bare & Bond works with micro-perfumeries sharing artisan scents in its boxes – would this mean that I wouldn’t smell the same as millions of other people?
The box is absolutely stunning, featuring slashes of artwork on story cards by Bokani Tshidzu. The recyclable box was posted through my letterbox, which meant that I could get on with other bits and bobs without having to worry about waiting for the postman.
The scent I received was ‘Wash Me In The Water’ by British perfumer Sarah McCartney who runs a micro-perfumery called 4160Tuesdays. This was an aquatic scent, with depth from frankincense and musk in the base and the freshness of cut grass and rosemary in the top.
All boxes by Bare & Bond come with cards inside, providing information on the perfume, perfumer and artwork so you can better understand the perfume and form a deeper connection with it.
What I have loved most about the Bare & Bond experience is the concept of Slow Perfume – the idea that you should take your time to explore scent, testing it on different occasions and in different moods before fully committing to it. Whilst lockdown has brought some limitations to where I can wear perfume, I would say Wash Me In The Water is a very everyday scent which I’ve worn on Zoom calls, more social occasions and sometimes just for a little pick me up. Having the ability to test Wash Me In The Water in different settings and not being committed to it as a full-sized bottle has meant I have better resonated with the scent than I have with previous fragrances.
I actually loved Bare & Bond so much and with lockdown leaving me unable to celebrate my best friend’s birthday, I had a Bare & Bond Curated Edition posted to her so she knew I was thinking of her. The Stroll In The Herb Garden was all about cultivating mindfulness in a world that is fast changing. This set of three perfumes contains essential oil in scents by Ruth Mastenbroek, Karen Timson and Anatole Lebreton and is perfect for creating a sense of calm.
